This is the most widespread of the four subspecies of Centaurea uniflora with a wide Central European range, the other three being much more restricted to areas from the Alps and the Balkan peninsula; all of them are mostly subalpine elements.

Pictures taken on 11th of July 2008 on Arjana crest in Cerna Mountains, Caras-Severin county. Though the altitude is between 1400 and 1521m asl the ecosystem here is a typical subalpine one due to the natural absence of spruce to occupy this ridge and because of the strong winds in the area.
