This is the most widespread of the four subspecies of Centaurea uniflora with a wide Central European range, the other three being much more restricted to areas from the Alps and the Balkan peninsula; all of them are mostly subalpine elements.Near Capra peak, Fagaras Mountains, Arges county, 17th of June 2010. dr. Pictures taken on 11th of July 2008 on Arjana crest in Cerna Mountains, Caras-Severin county. Though the altitude is between 1400 and 1521m asl the ecosystem here is a typical subalpine one due to the natural absence of spruce to occupy this ridge and because of the strong winds in the area. dr.
